This is a colored version of :iconwarrior-of-ruin:'s NaruSaku_His_Warmth picture [link]

The poem or song lyrics come from the artists comments from :iconwarrior-of-ruin:'s NaruSaku_His_Warmth picture

Its been so long since I've colored a picture with an evening background...

Yeah the shading came out awesome on this picture, especially Sakura's shadow on Naruto. Even the airbrushed colors on the tree at the top left corner came out better than I thought it would. Plus I overlapped the whole picture in an orange colored gradient to give the colors that evening feel.

Ahhh, so when you overlap the whole picture, do you go to the background layer to use the gradient?

No, you create a new layer and put the gradient on it. Then you can move the "gradient" layer above the background layer or just above the layers you have your colors on.

Ok, I'll give that a shot.

The gradient layer trick works best in my opinion as lighting effects for evening/night settings or lighted rooms.

If you need anymore help just let me know :D

I used it in my latest work. Check it out! The only problem I have with it is that I have to erase the gradient from every other layer when I apply it, so I'm guessing it's best for me to choose the gradient first in my background before working on anything else right?

Instead of erasing the gradient from every other layer try changing the layer style of the "gradient" layer to multiply or soft light. Also you can reduce the opacity and fill of the "gradient" layer.
